In this tutorial we will learn how to create cute vector doggos using the shape tools, pen tool, direct selection tools, and the pathfinder in Adobe Illustrator.
Tools! Take a look at the tools we will be using. You can drag them out of the tool pannel for easier access.
Step 1 Select a shape that you want to use to create the dog's head. I use the oval or the rounded rectangle.
Step 2 Modify your shape using the direct selection tool until you feel you have achieved the shape you desire.
Step 3 Add a shape for the eyes and nose. you can create one eye shape and duplicate it using the cmd+C and the cmd+D keyboard shortcut.
Step 4 Now its time to edit your nose shape the same way you edited your head. You might need to add a point here or there!
Step 5 That pup is thirsty! He needs a mouth so he can drink some water or give you doggo kisses.
Step 6 Now that he has a mouth, how will he come when you call him? He need ears!
Step 7 Make some cute inner ears for your doggo. We aren't quite finished yet.
Step 8 Hes coming to life but theres something missing. The sparkle in his eyes! just add two shapes of any color you like. I like using white.
Step 9 Lets duplicate the head shape and change it's color. Use the pen tool to create another curved line that is slightly bigger than the face shape.
Step 10 We have to use the Pathfinder tool set to divide. when you are done the shape you created will be split and you can bring the doggo features in front of it. Now he has markings!
Step 11 Change the color of his ears and you have a a finished doggo.
Experiment! Go forth and try different doggo combinations!
